Magugu - 5 Scotch Bonnets

Following 2018’s UK Funky-inspired collaboration between Magugu and Casement - ‘DNT’ - the Pidgin Rap MC united with mysterious London-based producer ROMO to deliver a quick strike, soundsystem-shattering grime/dubstep hybrid.

5 Scotch Bonnets showcases an unforgettable, ferocious performance by Magugu - the Nigerian, UK-based ‘Pidgin Rap Experimentalist’ - fresh from a series of incredible collaborations with producers such as Famous Eno, Doctor Jeep and frequent partner-in-crime Stagga. Living up to his mission statement to mashup the sounds of Africa and the West, Magugu turns up the heat - commanding ROMO’s deep, sledgehammer, dubstep influenced riddim with supercharged Jollof Rice (a West African delicacy) as the lyrical focal point.

With its distant warhorns, elephantine screams and wheel up-ready double-time beatswitch, 5SB marks an exciting new start for Deep Cover resident producer ROMO, who has been relatively quiet of late. Since the 2015 release his collaborative EP ‘Iona ’, alongside captivating vocalist NINA, he has been nothing but busy; developing his sound and collaborating with a diverse selection of vocalists along the way. Expect much more from ROMO in the coming months, including further work with Magugu, and placements on various forthcoming projects on Flowdan's Spentshell label.
